Starting a new business can be extremely exciting, can be a little scary, and if you are like most people, can be a bit overwhelming. Many people like to start hiring a few people from the start, or at least when they start seeing their business grow. This may simply be someone to answer phones or someone to file and keep track of paperwork. No matter what type of employee that is hired, too many small business owners are making the same mistake over and over again…they are neglecting to perform professional background screenings on these employees.
Money is a big deal to most new small business owners, and it is understandable that you don’t want to spend a lot on a background check. Because of this, business owners will attempt to perform the background check on their own or they will choose to work with a company online that offers “instant” background checks. No, no, no…these are not adequate, nor are they effective. What they are, however, is a waste of your money and time.
Don’t Throw You Money Away – Invest it, Instead
The last thing that a new business owner needs is to throw money away, right? So why do it with background checks? Here’s the thing…when you perform a background check on your own, or hire a cheap internet company to do your background checks, you are not getting the information you need. Why? You don’t have access to the same information that professionals have if you are doing this on your own, and if you are using a company online offering “instant” background checks, you very likely could be only getting information that could easily be found on your own, like through public records. On the flip side, however, when you choose a professional background screening firm, like one that is associated with the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), you will be making an investment into your future.
How The Investment Will Show Itself
Are you not yet convinced that a professional background check is not a good investment? Think about this…when you perform a background check on a potential employee on your own, there will be holes when you look at the big picture. You simply won’t have access to some information, some information will be too difficult for you to find on your own and you probably won’t even know what to look for. If you choose an “instant” check online, though you will get some information, again, you won’t get all the information you need and these companies are notorious for not giving updated information. However, if you choose a professional, you will find that you get the right information, on the right person…and this could save your company from disaster.
It is no secret that people with a criminal history or a history or lackluster work will be more likely to do the same things in the future. Hiring one of these people can put your company at risk. Are you ready to take that chance? If not, make sure that you are only choosing a high quality background check company that has your best interest in mind.
