Huffington Post Suggests Small Businesses are “Corporate America’s New Safeguard”

Starbucks and GE have recently begun publicizing new programs that promote the growth of small businesses. This Huffpo article, Small Business: Corporate America’s New Safeguard, suggests it is to save face.

Why would a large corporation want to align itself with a small business? The author includes a humorous, but true quote from Scott Galloway, a marketing professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business, which compares small businesses to dolphins. People love to like dolphins just as they do the small business. In all fairness the article does briefly mention that GE has a program that lends to businesses and is therefore simply supporting them in making money.

What do you think? Do you welcome the attention, or question why they are taking this approach?
